Today I'm sharing my latest project that I've been spending the last couple of weeks on while Justin's out building furniture. I thought I'd be able to take on painting the laundry/bathroom all by myself, but little did I know that all the little nooks & crannies this room has takes some time!<br /><div><br /></div><div>A few weeks ago, you helped me make a decision on <a href="http://homecomingmn.blogspot.com/2014/07/laundry-room-mood-boards.html" target="_blank">which colors to paint our laundry room</a> as part of our Phase 1 room makeover. And I love the choice that you made!! Some people just don't have the magic touch. But <a href="http://homecomingmn.blogspot.com/2014/01/to-stencil-or-not-to-stencil.html" target="_blank">Cutting Edge Stencils</a> reached out with some great pointers and an offer for a new (easier) stencil for me to try it out one more time. They instilled some confidence in me and helped me through the right tools and made a few pattern recommendations to make my next stenciling project a little easier. </div><div><br /></div><div>I ended up going with the <a href="http://www.cuttingedgestencils.com/japanese-stencil-nagoya.html" target="_blank">Nagoya All-Over stencil</a>, and I'm pretty darn happy with the way it turned out! 10 Dog Beds that match with your Home Decor

We just made a rediculously small update in our house that made a pretty big impact, that we just had to share with you. Seriously you guys, all we did was go shopping <i>(which is one of our favorite pastimes...). </i><br /><br />While out browsing Home Goods for a couple of outdoor planters last weekend, Justin stumbled across a dog bed that matches perfectly with <a href="http://homecomingmn.blogspot.com/2013/08/shop-room-living-room.html" target="_blank">our living room</a>. Now, Justin is the type of dog daddy that wants to buy <u>anything</u> and <u>everything</u> for his pups. To the point that I'm usually the type of dog mom has to tell him to put down the handful of dog toys he's picked up, because our dogs will rip them to all to shreds in 2 minutes flat. But this time, I had to agree with his enthusiasm, and we brought home our fifth dog bed. <i>(Mind you, we only have two dogs...).</i><br /><i><br /></i>We made the quick switch from the dirty old dog bed in the corner of our living room, to the pretty new yellow one. Our Master Suite Remodel Recap

Now that we've shared 99.9% of our Master Suite Remodel projects and our final inspection was approved <i>(yay!)</i>, we figured it was about time for a couple of round-ups.<br /><br />Our first roundup is to help visualize the space. When sharing photos with coworkers and out-of-state friends, it's can be hard for them to visualize where everything is in relation to each other. Ikea Hack: Shortening Lack Shelves

Happy Memorial Day everyone! The weather in Minneapolis has been <i>amazing</i>. We've been spending a lot of time outdoors (running, biking, reading) sprinkled in with some home projects. So far, the perfect weekend.<br /><br />Even though today's a holiday, I have one quick post left to share before showing off our <i>finished</i> master bathroom! So a quick post it is, before heading out on my late-morning run. <i>(Soooo much better than an early morning run!) </i><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/22623969@N03/14275298925" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Ikea Hack Shortening Lack Shelves by Home Coming, on Flickr"><img alt="Ikea Hack Shortening Lack Shelves" height="1280" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2929/14275298925_c82a9bac57_o.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><br />Since Justin is a carpenter, we're not really ones for Ikea Hacks. Typically, we have no reason to hack an Ikea item, because Justin just builds it for us at a much higher quality at around the same price. But since Justin has had his hands full with this <a href="http://homecomingmn.blogspot.com/p/remodeling.html" target="_blank">Master Suite Remodel</a>, I wanted to try and make things a little easier, so I purchased three <a href="http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10282179/#/70159100" target="_blank">Lack shelves from Ikea</a>.<br /><br />I purchased the shelves <i>months</i> before we were done with the master bathroom, so I didn't really know where we'd be hanging them, and had no idea that they'd end up being far too long - about 5 inches too long.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/22623969@N03/14267004791" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Ikea Lack Shelves Uncut by Home Coming, on Flickr"><img alt="Ikea Lack Shelves Uncut" height="906" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2939/14267004791_415b6a22ff_c.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />Oops! So much for making Justin's life a little easier.<br /><br />So, now that the majority of the remodel work is off of Justin's plate, it was time to shorten these Ikea shelves so they fit our Master Bathroom properly.<br /><br />We started by measuring out where we thought the three shelves should hang.  Justin draws this out using painters tape rather than marking our new walls up with pencil marks.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/22623969@N03/14083762147" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Measuring the Space for Shelves by Home Coming, on Flickr"><img alt="Measuring the Space for Shelves" height="427" src="https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3751/14083762147_5f5c5b5e9f_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />Justin then cut the shelves down to our measured size (38"), as well as cutting down the metal bracket that affixes the shelf to the mirror. Justin cut down the metal bracket using a sawzall with a metal cutting blade. But you could also use a hacksaw.<br /><br />For the shelf, Justin put tape on the shelves when he cut to ensure that the particle board didn't chip when he cut the shelf using a miter saw.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/22623969@N03/14247045986" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Cutting Ikea Shelves by Home Coming, on Flickr"><img alt="Cutting Ikea Shelves" height="640" src="https://farm3.staticflickr.com/2915/14247045986_04414741b2_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />Then it was as simple as following Ikea's instructions to hang the shelves. Refinished Stairwell Reveal

Happy Monday friends. And today we're sharing the final reveal. It's all painted and stained. DIY Striped Office Organization

I've got two more simple DIY projects from my <a href="http://homecomingmn.blogspot.com/2014/04/home-office-makeover-giveaway.html#.U2FhN-g9bug" target="_blank">Home Office Makeover</a> to share with you. <br /><br />First up, are these awesome DIY Striped Magazine Holders which I made from some super old (and ugly) black magazine holders I had laying around the house. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/22623969@N03/14045071796/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="DIY Striped Magazine Holders by Home Coming, on Flickr"><img alt="DIY Striped Magazine Holders" height="906" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5122/14045071796_71c642e009_c.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />The DIY of these was about as simple as it got. Take your old magazine files, tape off even stripes on the spine of the holder with blue painters tape, then paint away! Since I was using spray paint, I decided to tape up the other three sides of the holder so they didn't get any overspray, and it worked great. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/22623969@N03/14068181615/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Striped Magazine Holder how to by Home Coming, on Flickr"><img alt="Striped Magazine Holder how to" height="640" src="https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7179/14068181615_53d1d08d06_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />Then I took my three striped magazine holders and mixed them in with my three <a href="http://www.staples.com/Bigso-Viktoria-Magazine-Collector-White/product_153946" target="_blank">new white magazine holders</a> from Staples. I feel like the balance between the stripes and the white is perfect for this space. Taking my two <a href="http://www.staples.com/Martha-Stewart-Home-Office-with-Avery-Wall-Manager-Cork-Board/product_100257" target="_blank">Martha Stewart Bulletin Boards</a>, I taped them off with painters tape (I can't remember this brand of painters tape, but I liked the width), and then painted stripes using some wall paint samples I had laying around the house. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/22623969@N03/14045070746/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Striped Bulletin Board how to by Home Coming, on Flickr"><img alt="Striped Bulletin Board how to" height="640" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5321/14045070746_9c65005100_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />Simple, right? But so much cuter than two plain bulletin boards hanging above my desk.<br /><br />This whole office was filled with really simple DIY projects that came together in such a strong design that I'm in love with. DIY Painted Storage Boxes & Behind the Scenes of our Office Makeover

And needless to say, our renters did <i>not</i> take care of our house.  <br /><br />This bedroom wasn't too bad, but it was awful dirty (there must have been a child sleeping up against this wall) and there were cracks and holes all along the walls. So this room needed some Spackle to fill the holes and cracks, and a few coats of fresh paint. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/22623969@N03/13883346969/" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" title="Fixing and Painting Walls by Home Coming, on Flickr"><img alt="Fixing and Painting Walls" height="428" src="https://farm6.staticflickr.com/5280/13883346969_3f1a1a0e1d_z.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />While I was working on the room, Justin was <strike>soaking up the one nice day that we've had in the last few months</strike> painting my desk.  We bought this desk while we were renting an apartment in Denver. These DIY Painted Storage Boxes cost me $0 and only took about 15 minutes. After spraying on a a couple coats of white paint, I painted on patterns with my black acrylic paint. Polka Dots for one box, and x's for the other.
