String art is a pretty popular trend right now. I've seen anything from string art states, deer heads to balloons on Pinterest and loved them all. I don't know if I'm talented enough to make string art actually look like anything, but lucky for you Stephanie from Simply Dream & Create is here to show us how she made this amazing piece of string art.

Hi Home Coming readers, I'm Stephanie and I blog over at Simply Dream & Create. I'm a science nerd by day and craft crazy by night. I have a huge passion for crafts and I'm constantly learning and exploring the craft world! I'm very excited to be here!

A few months ago I pinned this from Delightful Deets. It is a beautful Deer Head String Art. I knew I wanted to do something similar but with a word. Recently I was able to get around to making it and I'd thought I'd share it with you all! Here is what I did:

What you need:
  • Wooden Board
  • Wood Stain
  • Paint Brush
  • Hammer
  • Nails
  • String
  • Outline of Design
One convenient thing about this project was I was able to find all the supplies at Hobby Lobby. I just love that store!

The piece of wood I found was beveled on the edges. While I like the beveled edge look, it wasn't the look I was going for with this project. So I turned the piece of wood over and used the back.

I first sanded the wood on the side I used and the edges.

Next I stained the wood with a dark stain.

Once the wood was stained the color I wanted I moved on to creating the string-art part. I used the word "create" in marketing script font and printed out the outline of the word. I taped the "create" outline onto the wood, then hammered 1/2 nails into my wood along the outline of the word.

Next I wrapped my string around the nails. I choose a coral color, which contrasted nicely with the dark wood.

First I tied the string around one of the nails, then wrapped the string around the outline of the word. Next, I went back over the word with the string to fill it in. You may want to refer to a print out of your word, I had too. : )  When filling in the word I didn't follow any pattern, I just randomly filled it with what I thought looked good.

And this is pretty much all there is to it.

I'm really happy with how it turned out. : ) I placed it where I do my crafting as a little creative inspiration.

Thanks for having me Kayla!
